Tapei, Taiwan. October, 2002. This one's for you, Erin. My grandfather's in his 90s and he still won't let anyone else run the business. My cousin Annie's hamming it up for the camera. ***A helpful update from Erin, who loves to say "spleen":*** "The herb that Annie showed the camera, Lian Zi (Hong is with the outside skin, Bai is without) is all about SPLEEN!!!!!!! Known as 'FRUIT OF THE SPLEEN' (Pi Guo), lotus seed has been highly regarded for its supplemental & therapeutic qualities since the earliest Material Medica texts. Shen Nong Ben Cao Jing/The Divine Husbandman's Classic states, 'Long term consumption lightens the body, slows aging, assuages hunger, and extends life.'" Spleen, indeed. :-D Thanks, Dr. Erin!
